During the early 1970s, David Bowie adopted the persona of Ziggy Stardust. Ziggy represents the human manifestation of an alien who is attempting to provide a message of hope to a humanity in the lst five years of its existence. The character of Ziggy Stardust was inspired by Vince Taylor and allowed Bowie to explore themes of sexual exploration and social commentary.
