Dress Code Tees!

Music Driven Fashion

In case you didn’t know already, music is basically what drives all of us here at Dress Code (see what I did there?). On top of all of the great band merchandise and street wear brands we carry, we also enjoy designing our own shirts too. We have made quite a few over the years and I would like to quickly take you guys through the Dress Code tee archives. Check it out…

Big Fan Tee

We consider ourselves to be some clever cats around here,  so we went ahead and proved that statement’s truth through a little “wordplay” T-shirt design.  I’m sure you’ve at least been to one show before,  where there was that annoying groupie talking your ear off before or after the show about how big of a fan he/she is of the artist and how they’ve “been down with them since day one, before they became popular”. Next time you find yourself in this kind of situation, kindly direct them to Dress Code so they can get a “big fan” tee. Then everyone will know without even having to ask. “That guy must be a big fan.”

Record Player Tee

“And the Grammy goes to… Dress Code Clothing!” Our inspiration for the “record player” tee was derived from the most prestigious award to receive, in the music industry, the Grammys! And since we’re Music Driven Fashion, you already know who the winners are.

Tree Guitar Tee

One of our personal favorite brands that we carry is Imaginary Foundation. They’re known for their vibrantly detailed images that they use in their graphics, sometimes accompanied by an interesting subliminal message within the graphic. Bottom line is, Imaginary’s artwork is always eye-catching. Before they started their whole sublimated aesthetic, we wanted to do our own design using Imaginary Foundation’s creative twist. The trunk of our “tree” is an electric guitar fusing into an image of an actual tree. But we didn’t stop there. We laid some speakers/sub-woofers into the branches at the top of the tree to bring it all together. Available in four different rockin’ colors too!

Standard Issue Tee

And our newest addition to the collection is our “standrad issue” tee. Featured on super soft, black cotton t-shirts, we have our signature “ticket” logo. Who knows, maybe you can even get into shows for free, if you just point at your shirt when greeted by the big ugly security man at the door. It’s definitely worth a try.

Retired Soldiers

Here’s two more shirts of ours that have unfortunately sold out already. So let’s just bask in the glory of their awesomeness.

Panther Tee

See, I told you we were cool cats! This tee was designed by world-renowned Graphic Artist, Mago Dovjenko in Germany.

Legends Live Tee

Because Legends never die. Designed exclusively for Dress Code by Boston artist, Matt W. Moore

Holy Jeans!

Denim Details

This here will be a more informational post generalized on the topic of Denim. I’m going to try and touch on the major FAQs people have about jeans and their price-points. To me, your denim is almost like a piece of your identity. Your denim says a lot about you from the fit of the jean, to the wash, style, and finally your outfit paired with said denim. Trust me when I say this, the fit is absolutely vital to enable you maximum wear for the jeans you buy. You don’t wanna be the dude that’s 5’6″ wearing a 34″ inseam straight fit pair of jeans. I’m going to also breakdown what exactly makes designer denim hold it’s “prestigious classification status” (and their crazy price-points, at times) above the others.

So, how do these “big time” denim companies come up with their prices anyways? What is it that makes those Diesel jeans almost $200 dollars and those Levi’s 501s only $50? Well the truth is, there are a number of different things that set companies like Diesel and G-Star apart from the more basic, affordable denims like KR3W or Levi’s. Here they are..

Weight

One of the most overlooked factors that can determine denim’s price is the “weight” or thickness of the denim. The thickness is measured in ounces and predominantly is given a code that identifies the denim’s weight. So that would mean, the heavier the denim is, the thicker it will be. This will also determine the softness of the denim. So if you purchase some 21 oz selvedge denim, be prepared to walk around in a cardboard box with legs for a few months. Notice how these jeans don’t look like they “fit” his legs and look overly loose/bunched up? This is a good example of how your higher-ounce raw denim will look/fit before the material loosens and starts to break in.

Distressing/Washing

Another factor that can sometimes go unknown is the washing and distressing processes. Big Denim companies put their jeans through a wash process in order to get them to the desired color and softness they’re going for with that specific pair. This is also what gives specific collections their “identity.” The distress process can also help with giving certain collections their signature look. If a company is campaigning a new pair/model of jeans that have say, a little more of a destroyed or “distressed” look to them, they were given that look through distressing. Different techniques such as sand blasting specific areas of the denim is what gives them that aged, or already broken in look. Some companies even go as far as using paint to add discolorations or fading.

ZDIESELFACTORY

A Diesel Factory employee prepares a pair of jeans for distressing treatments.

Caring For Your Jeans

Now onto the importance of caring for your denim after you’ve made your big purchase. The way you take care of your denim will basically define how long  they will last for you. Bigger companies bank on their denim’s durability as a way of upholding those higher price tags. Where as with certain Levi’s models, I’ve worn completely through them in just one year.  The biggest myth with denim is that you need to wash them regularly like you do your other clothes in order to break them in quicker. This is actually what NOT to do. There are far more DON’Ts than there are Dos for proper at-home washing. For those of you not familiar with the proper way to wash your jeans, check out these tips and tricks from Crosby Press.

Shop It Up!

Now that you have better insight as to where these companies come up with their prices, it’s time to get you some new denim! However, I still strongly urge you to ALWAYS take advantage of any clearance or denim sales you can find. But at least now you will have a better understanding to why the tag to a pair of denim shorts your holding is just as much as a regular pair of jeans. Start scoping out some different denim companies and let me know what brands you guys are liking in the comments below. Remember, you’ll never know what you like unless you go into the stores yourself and try them on.

CRKS

Crooks & Castles Spring/Summer 2014

Crooks S/S ’14

As we saw from the Crooks Gang this past winter, they were real heavy on doing their own “Luxury Brand Rendition” Graphics/Designs. This summer, they hit us with some more of their lux-aesthetics using a variety of Luxury inspired designs mixed in throughout this unique line. Also seen, is a wide range of materials, colors, and patterns used to create their button-ups, Jerseys, and even their sublimated tees. One of my favorite pieces from this Crooks collection is a very necessary staple that should be in everyone’s summer wardrobe, Jerseys! This is a multi-panel mesh football jersey featuring their classic “CRKS” logo screen-printed across the front chest. The logo throws your eyes for a loop, as it’s printed using a reflective ink similar to that 3M Reflector tape we used to rock on our backpacks in grade-school. Complimented with a nice little “3M” Patch sewn at the bottom left of the hem. You’ll be shining and staying cool this summer for sure.CRKS Jersey

Here we see some “steal-spiration” from iconic Luxury Brand, Versace, featured on the Bong Bong Graphic Tee. Crooks has incorporated that “Versace Shield” with their custom Medusa Head logo throughout their brand/ad campaigns for as long as I can remember now. This time however, they bring it to us with an unfamiliar face over top the shield. A painted skull wearing a Jester’s Hat. The front bell on the hat, in the form of their famous chain “C” logo is a great little finishing detail.CRKS So, What Can We Expect Next?

My prediction for next season is that we will keep seeing the luxury-ripped graphics and watch Bucket hats become a top commodity within their brand. Who knows, with their Luxury-minded designs, we might even see their rendition of the rich guy leather sweatpants, but let’s hope not. Be sure to check out the rest of the Spring/Summer 2014 collection and grab your favorites now, available at Dress Code.

HOLY SHOES!!!

Spring/Summer 2014 Footwear Lineup

Summer Kicks

As you probably already know, we  like to keep it fresh here at Dress Code, and you might also still be trying to decide on a new pair of shoes for the summer. So, we threw together a line-up of some shoes  for both men and women to get you guys right for the summertime.

LADIES

First up for the ladies, we have the all new Converse Chuck Taylor Gladiator thong sandals.

The Gladiator uses  the Converse Chuck Taylor’s classic canvas material to make up the “upper”. Along the ankle are silver rivet studs to match the silver lace eyelets. Perfect for the avid pool partier, and beach-goers.

Vans Sk8-Hi Wedge

We have been seeing a lot of companies coming out with their rendition of the new “wedge sneakers” for women. Although, I think Vans is doing it best right now, using their classic Sk8-Hi silhouette to bring this “hybrid sneaker” to fruition. Using a textured red, black-spotted canvas as the upper, they have a nice little “fur” look to them, complimented with silver eyelets and waxed red laces.

Puma Sky Wedge (Reptile)

Keeping the Wedges rolling, we have the popular Puma Sky Wedge in their new “Reptile” colorway.  Black nylon tongue, leather ankle straps, with a suede-like material as the upper. Puma then finished off the shoe with a black “croc print” pattern wrapping the entire upper of the Sky Wedge.

MEN’S

Converse All Star Riff Low

This first pair is a perfect summer silhouette. Show your patriotism all summer long with the Converse All Star Riff LowThis shoe’s upper uses an american flag pattern on the classic Chuck Taylor Canvas material with a cream toe-box/tongue. Cut lower than the original CT All Star Lows, the Riff only has two lace eyelets, giving you more of a summer boat shoe look on top of a thin cut vulcanized sole with a comfy foam in-sole. I think the combination of navy piping over the eyelets and tongue, with the cream laces really brings the shoe together.

Vans Old Skool (Guate/Olive Night)

Keeping the color rolling for the summer, we have the very unique Vans Old Skool. It features a multitude of colors, patterns, and materials throughout the shoe. The toe-box, tongue, heel cup, and eye-stays all feature a faded Olive/Grey canvas giving the shoe somewhat of a vintage look. A multi-color Navajo pattern makes up the upper and the sock liner is made up of a premium “peanut butter” colored leather. The brass eyelets and “work boot” laces keep true to the vintage aesthetic of the shoe. The matching “peanut butter” stripe around the out-sole is the perfect finishing touch.

Puma Future Disc Lite Op V2

For the Flashier fellas we’ve got the Puma Future Disc Lite. This wacky running model is one of my personal favorites from Puma right now. Forget your shoe laces. Disc Technology is the future. Small wires connect from the spool to the sides of the rubber “eyestays”. The teal mesh upper is topped with that black and speckled purple rubber “frame” wrapping from the outside arch around the heel to the inside arch for added support. Accent the tongue-pull in purple, with a matching patent leather toe cap, and you’ve got some serious neck-breakers for the summer.

Black Sabbath x Converse Capsule

Heavy Metal Kicks

Black Sabbath is arguably the best Metal Band in history, known as the pioneers of Metal after their induction into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. And with the band still going strong on tour for their latest studio Album, 13it only made sense to team back up with Converse for the release of their second capsule collection of sneakers.

Details:

Black Sabbath x Converse

The collection is made up of five unique sneakers, three of which are offered in the classic Chuck Taylor All-Star Hi silhouette. The inspiration behind the collection is genius in my opinion. Commemorating their recent reunion for their newest album, 13, as well as the return of their crazy lead singer and living legend, Ozzy Osbourne, Converse uses their forever iconic artwork from their albums being used on the shoes. The die-hard Metal Heads out there might even consider this pack an “archive collection”.

Converse CT Hi Black Sabbath:

CT Hi Black SabbathFirst up, we’ve got their Debut Album that paved the way for their legacy featured on a black CT Hi. The entire upper uses the cover art accompanied by “Black Sabbath” embroidered in white complimenting the tongue, with the same black and white Sabbath logo making up the  canvas sock-liner of the shoe.

Converse CT Hi Never Say Die:

CT HI Paranoid For those of you that want to buy a pair from this collection, but  enjoy simple shoe colorways, The Never Say Die CT Hi is the pair for you. Classic black upper with the  “Black Sabbath” logo from the cover art embroidered again in white, but this time a bit larger across the heel. A collage of black and white photos of the band members is used as the sock-liner.

Converse CT Hi Paranoid:

CT Hi Paranoid

Featured on a black CT Hi is the “Paranoid” Album art on the upper of the shoe. Also running parallel down the heel tab it is embroidered in purple. Keeping relevant to the designs and cover art, “Black Sabbath” also is on the tongue of these in that same purple stitching. Be sure to compliment your pair with a Sabbath Band Tee when you finally decide on which pair fits your style.
